Listed building conversion proposed

A planning application has been made to convert the secondary kitchen at the Palace Hotel on Palace Road in Buxton into nine ensuite bedrooms.

The three storey building, which dates from 1868 with some 20th century alterations and additions, is a grade two listed building in the ‘french chateau’ style dressed in millstone grit and decorated by ornate iron ridge railings.

The building’s owners, Altrincham’s Britannia Hotels, say the area earmarked for development is the larger, but now redundant, secondary hotel kitchen on the building’s ground floor.

They now want to alter and refurbish the kitchen to bring it back as part of the existing hotel residence space.

The company say the alterations have been designed to have a ‘minimum architectural impact’ and thus preserve both the listed building and its setting.
