SALEM — Salem International University’s Spring Convocation Weekend will be held Friday and Saturday.
The weekend events will begin with Freshman Convocation — the welcoming of new students — at 2 p.m. Friday in the T. Edward Davis Gymnasium.
During the ceremony, Outstanding Alumni and Athletic Hall of Fame inductees will also be recognized and honored.
A reception for these honorees will be held in the Randolph Campus Center following the ceremony, and dinner will follow immediately in the Powell Lounge.
On Saturday, there will be a women’s and a men’s basketball game.
During halftime of the men’s game, winners of the Archie Talley Motivational Award and the Jack Deloplaine Leadership Award will be announced. Hall of Fame and Distinguished Alumni honorees will also be re-introduced.
During the games, former standouts athletes Talley and Deloplaine, will meet and greet the public and sign autographs.
This will be a “blackout” game, with free T-shirts being provided to the attendees.
Convocation featured speakers will be Forrest Odend’hal and Jarrell Carter. Both are successful graduates of the university, and they will focus on motivating current students to become successful college graduates.
Forrest graduated from Salem College in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice. He played football at Salem.
He served as a member of the Manassas Police Department from 1985-1999.

In 2014, he was named as the broker manager of the Long Foster Old Town Alexandria Office.
