HOLYOKE — Activities ranging from a luminaria parade to a dog show and possibly a hockey game are planned for the Holyoke Canal District Winter Festival Feb. 12 to 14 at Gateway City Arts at 92 Race St. and other downtown venues.
“The Holyoke Canal District is excited to offer a celebration of winter themed activities for the whole family,” said a listing on the city website.
Planning is still in the works, so the schedule listed on the Gateway City Arts website could change as events are added, the website said.
The festival’s opening ceremony would be Feb. 12 at 4 p.m., the website said.
From 6 to 7 on opening night, a parade featuring an arrangement of candles set in sand inside paper bags will take place along the canals, the website said. Such a display is known as a luminaria, a traditional Mexican Christmas lantern.
Other events on the first night include an air guitar-lip-sync battle and a DJ Dance Party.
The Feb. 13 events include an artisan market, dog show, chili cookoff, cake decorating contest, an evening drag show and possibly a hockey game, the website said. That’s listed as “Guns and Hoses,” which usually means a match between police officers and firefighters.
Events on Feb. 14 include a show by ConText: Flute Voice Duo and “An Evening of Love” Cabaret,” the website said.
All activities will be free except for a concert the night of Feb. 13, and donations would be appreciated, the website said.
