Bastion House in Gloucester is set to be transformed into houses should planning permission be granted on the listed building.
The plans would see the grade II listed building transformed into eight one bedroom flats, a two bedroom flat and a four bedroom house.
Bastion House is currently being used for office space but has been unused for some time.
Planning consultant at SF Planning, Rob Ellis, said: “It is good news to see the building go back to its original purpose.
“The development will preserve the site in its original designs far better that the current office space.”
The house was originally built in 1820 as a residential property before being renovated in to office space in recent times.
This plan would take the building back to its original purpose, with three flats on each floor and a four bedroom house built across all four stories of the building.
Mr Ellis added: “When these buildings are made into office space they tend to get changed a lot to and it can be detrimental to the site.
“We have a lot of office space in Gloucester currently, so going back to housing, something that we need in the city centre, is a very good use of the space.”
Bastion House, located on Brunswick Road is near to the Eastgate Shopping Centre.
“When listed buildings aren’t used they degrade, so it would be good to see the house being used,” said Mr Ellis.
“We need more dwellings in the city centre so I think this would be a positive development for Gloucester.”
The previous occupiers, the Mike Burton Group, have since moved to Quedgeley in a purpose built office, since they moved out in 2008 the site has been empty.
The application, written by the agent on behalf of the owner, said: “The plan will put to a viable economic use which will ensure that the buildings future is properly assured for future generations.”
The plan also describes the area as a ‘highly sustainable location just off the city centre’.
The building was listed in 1973 and the last amendment to the building was 1998.
