Australia’s infamous backpacker murderer is serving seven consecutive life sentences in Goulburn Jail, but somehow managed to be listed in the 2015/16 telephone directory.

Local Goulburn residents reported the listing of ‘Milat I’ at Maud Street Goulburn when the directory was delivered recently. 

The address on the entry matches that of Goulburn’s maximum security prison where Milat, 71, is serving his sentence.

The listing is complete with a mobile phone number which diverts straight to a message bank when dialed.

According to Fairfax Media a number of residents were concerned with the mysterious phone-book entry.

‘Is there a joker in our midst or is there something more sinister going on?’ one asked.

Whitepages has confirmed the listing was cancelled in May last year, but the 2015/16 had already been printed. 

Milat was convicted of murdering seven backpackers in July 1996.

Five of his victims were from overseas, and two were from Melbourne he buried their bodies in Belanglo State Forrest near Berrima, two hours south of Sydney.
