THE building of three new houses at Lower Hardwick, Chepstow has been approved by Monmouthshire County Council’s (MCC) planning committee.
Lower Hardwick is a Grade II listed building sited in spacious grounds and is situated opposite the also Grade II listed Ashfield House.
Lower Hardwick was built in the early 19th century and is located facing Hardwick Hill.
In 2012 planning permission was given for the conversion of an outbuilding on the site into an apartment and the building of three terraced houses within the garden of Lower Hardwick.
Approval was granted yesterday (5th January) for a pair of semi-detached houses and one detached house to be built on the site. Two new garages and a new access have also been approved. The new approved plans will replace the previous permission granted in 2012.
The new homes will be three storeys high, 8.8 metres for the detached house and 9.5 metres for the semi-detached.
The lower ground floor of the homes would be set into the ground generating the appearance of a two storey-house.
Councillor Phil Murphy said: “I think it’s a far better use of that site than the previous application. I think it’s better to look at, it uses the site better and it fits into the location.
“As far as I can see the buildings also complement Lower Hardwick”.
