Public bodies are still working to “reduce the risk of harm to residents” at a crisis-hit care home set to close in a matter of weeks.
The Care and Social Services Inspectorate for Wales (CSSIW) is working with Gwynedd council and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to help residents at the Plas y Bryn care home in Bontnewydd.
North Wales Police are also investigating claims of neglect and poor care at the home, which has been the subject of three scathing reports from the CSSIW in the last 18 months, and have quizzed former members of staff.
The CSSIW, which is responsible for care standards at nursing homes in Wales, has listed a dozen areas where Plas y Bryn was failing to follow regulations.
These included failing to manage the home with sufficient care, competence and skill.
The private home, which still houses about 60 residents, will close on January 13, with Gwynedd council and the health board taking steps to find residents new accommodation.
A CSSIW spokesperson said: “We are still working with North Wales Police as part of their investigation.
“We are also continuing to work closely with Gwynedd council and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to reduce the risk of harm to residents.”
DCI Williams of North Wales Police said “The enquiry is still at an early stage and we are still in the process of interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence.”
A joint statement by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and Gwynedd council said: “Last week, we received notification from the owner of the Plas y Bryn private nursing and residential home in Bontnewydd of his intention to close the home in mid-January.
“As a council and health board, our priority is to support and protect the health and wellbeing of the home’s residents through what is an extremely difficult time.
“Clearly, as a large number of the home’s residents have extremely complex health and care needs, identifying suitable alternative accommodation is a very challenging process.
“We are doing everything possible to meet the needs of each and every one of the residents and we are in regular contact with the families of the residents to discuss the matter.”
