Chennai-based publication house ‘Kalaignan Pathipagam’, as part of its 60th anniversary celebration, has short-listed works of 60 authors that will be released in Malaysia in February, 2016. Of the 60 authors, 15 are from the city. “This is the ninth time we have collaborated with the University of Malaysia. A committee selected the works of the authors where we have books on various genres,” says Nandan Masilamani, managing director of Kalaignan Pathipagam. “Malaysia is an important market for Tamil books because of the huge number of Tamil speaking Indians settled in the country. Therefore, such events will increase the profile of authors,” he adds.
“The publication house promotes modern literature and the event will be a platform to create awareness and promote the use of the language. We are also inviting Malaysian writers for the event,” he says.
George Shanthakumar (67), who has written 27 books in the last eight years, is thrilled.
“It is a great recognition to see your books being published in another country,” says the retired banker who is also a ventriloquist. He says working on the book, ‘
Vedhanaigalai Sadanaigalaga Maatrungal
’ (Turn your worries into achievements), was a challenge. Because, he had to type the book by himself as the printer delayed the project.
Udayai M. Veeraiyan, teacher-turned writer whose work has been short-listed, says “I have been to Malaysia thrice and such events will promote our works and will also encourage more interaction among writers.”
