TWO FORMER fire stations have been put up for sale as the buildings get ready to start a new chapter in their existence.
Cornwall Council has placed Camborne and Redruth fire stations for sale with the sales expected to swell council coffers by almost £750,000.
The buildings were closed this summer as Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service moved into its new purpose built headquarters at Tolvdaddon and Hayle.
Truro based Redgrave Commercial has been instructed to advertise the sales on behalf of Cornwall Council.
Selling agent Rob Redgrave said: “This is a truly unique and exciting opportunity for a forward thinking local business or organisation to acquire a strategically located and prominent site close to both the A30 and the respective town centres.
“We have already had interest on both sites from both local and national occupiers.”
The Redruth station has a site area of 0.38 acres and a total accommodation of 360 square metres.
Camborne fire station is bigger again, spanning 0.75 acres with a total accommodation of 1,486 square metres.
Redruth station is listed for sale with a guide price of £275,000 and Camborne £450,000.
Cornwall Council opened the Tolvaddon station back in May after two years of planning and construction.
The 24 hour station houses three engines, as well as a rescue tender –used to respond to traffic collisions and animal rescues among other incidents – and a rope rescue vehicle.
The relocation to the new station and facilities is expected to save the service around £500,000 a year in maintenance, running and operational costs and also boasts state of the art training facilities.
Camborne and Redruth fire stations are both over 50 years old.
