Bracebridge Heath is a cliff village on the southern edge of Lincoln city centre. It straddles the A15 to Sleaford and sits between the edge of RAF Waddington and Cross O’Cliff Hill.

Its location on the ‘Lincoln Edge’ means it overlooks the southern part of the city and has views of the Witham valley to the west and spectacular views of the Cathedral to the north.

It is a large village and one that is destined to grow even further in size as local authority planners battle to meet national housing requirements.

The village is home to the new International Bomber Command Centre. The £5 million memorial is a lasting tribute to the 55,573 aircrew who paid with their lives during the Second World War.

Properties

Bracebridge Heath has a great selection of homes with a broad spectrum of predominately two, three and four bedroom houses.

From small starter homes and mid-sized semi-detached properties to rows of terraced town houses and large detached plots with spacious gardens and ample parking, there is plenty to suit families of all sizes and ages.

The ongoing redevelopment of the Grade II listed St John’s hospital site is adding to the existing offering with a selection of high-end flats and houses. A total of 184 homes are being created, 106 of these will be within the existing listed building (64 houses and 42 apartments) and 78 new homes will be built in the grounds.

And in the coming years, Bracebridge Heath will expand considerably, with hundreds more homes expected to be built around its outskirts.

Parks

Bracebridge Heath is within walking distance of Lincoln’s South Common – a huge swathe of natural open space scattered with planted trees and three large ponds.

The Common plays hosts to a fun fair twice a year and travelling circus once a year.

The village itself is home to an impressive sports and playing field, which boasts a children’s play area along side tennis and basketball courts, a skate park and an outdoor community gym.

The well-utilised facility is popular with dog walkers as well as children of all ages.

It is also used by community groups and local sports clubs.

There are a handful of other green spaces in the village and a small number of play parks situated within the housing developments.

Amenities

Bracebridge Heath has its own GP surgery, a police station, two churches, community halls and a library.

There is a Premier Inn hotel on the edge of the village and a BB near the centre.

The village is also home to Bracebridge Cricket Club which is one of the dominant sides in the Lincolnshire Premier League.

As well as having its own impressive sports field, Bracebridge Heath is within a short driving distance of many other amenities.

Five minutes away in Lincoln there are cinemas, theatres and hotels as well as banks, dental surgeries and the county’s main hospital.

Meanwhile neighbouring villages are home to a variety of amenities, including riding stables, beauty spas and a bowling ally.

Shops

Bracebridge Heath has a 24-hour petrol station which stocks supplies of essential items such as bread and milk.

Two convenience stores (a Tesco Express and a Lincolnshire Co-operative food store) are located in the centre of the village, at the junction of the A15 and the A607.

There is also a Post Office, pharmacy, funeral directors, hair salons, a beauty parlour and a number of takeaways.

Schools

St John’s Primary School Academy is based on Grantham Road. It was rated Good in its Ofsted inspection in January 2012, and has student groups, or houses, named after each of Lincolnshire’s main RAF bases.

Bracebridge Heath Pre-School is at The Hub in St John’s School on Grantham Road. It achieved an Ofsted rating of Outstanding in all areas after an inspection on April 27, 2015.

Pubs and restaurants

Three pubs sit at the village centre and each has its own specific identity.

The Bull provides a contemporary, family-friendly offering, with a varied menu including daily carvery. It serves local cask ales and hosts regular live music evenings, as well as a weekly quiz night and steak night.

Across the road sits The Blacksmiths (so called as it is built on the site of a Victorian blacksmith’s shop). This is a more traditional pub, with a pool table and outdoor drinking area.

And on the other side of the junction sits The Homestead, part of the Fayre and Square chain. The pub is housed in an iconic former hospital building and many of its original features remain untouched.

It serves purse-friendly food deals, such as two meals for £10 and a two -course lunch for £5.99.

It has indoor and outdoor eating areas as well as a children’s play area.

A short distance from the centre of the village, next to the Bomber Command Memorial, is a Table Table pub restaurant called Mill Lodge.

It serves classic pub food and has plenty of free parking.

Transport

Bracebridge Heath is a short distance from the centre of Lincoln and there are two main roads leading from the village to the city.

However, traffic can be incredibly heavy at rush hour and so, while the journey can be completed in five minutes, it is more likely to take around half an hour at peak times.

It is well placed for road travel to Sleaford (15 minutes away) Boston (45 minutes away) and Grantham (fifty minutes away).

The village is well serviced by public transport into Lincoln, where you can access the city’s bus and train stations, with services across the county and beyond.

While there are plenty of cycle paths on routes around Bracebridge Heath, the village sits at the top of a hill. This means that reaching it by bike or on foot from Lincoln can prove quite a test of fitness.

The village is expected to benefit greatly from the construction of Lincoln’s planned Eastern Bypass, which will connect Bracebridge Heath with the north of the city via a new multi-million pound road.
