ROXBURY TWP. — The First Presbyterian Church Handbell Choir is already practicing.
Members are preparing to “ring in the holiday season”, literally.
They’ll be among the many performers and good cheer bringers at the township’s first “Home For The Holiday” event. The winter holiday celebration will be feted all along Main Street, Succasunna, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5.
The event, which is sponsored by the Main Street Committee as a fundraiser to further upgrade and improve historic Main Street, will feature food trucks, music, crafts, a visit by Santa, a tree lighting and “all day entertainment” along Main Street.
At 11 a.m., there will be an opening ceremony in the performance tent.
From 11 a.m. to noon, a children’s art center will take place a the United Methodist Church.
At 11:30 a.m., carol signing will take place in the performance tent. It will continue at noon.
From noon to 12:30 p.m., a puppet show will entertain children at the United Methodist Church.
From 12:30 to 2 p.m., a Boy Scout band ensemble will play in the performance tent.
At 1 p.m., Yoga West will demonstrate in the performance tent. At the same time, “story time” for kids will take place in the Roxbury Township Public Library.
from 1 to 3 p.m., “Santa Land” will take place at the library. Photos with Santa will be offered, as will crafts for children. A $5 donation is suggested. Proceeds will benefit the Roxbury Social Services Department. The Santa Land event is sponsored by the library and the Roxbury Area Chamber of Commerce. From 1 to 3 p.m., a cooking decorating contest will take place at the library. A wreath decorating contest takes place at the same time at the library.
At 12:30 p.m., a bell choir will perform at the First Presbyterian Church. At 1:30 p.m., the choir will perform in the performance tent. At 2 p.m., the Boy Scout band will perform in the tent. At 2:30 p.m., Irish dancers will perform in the performance tent.
At 3 p.m, the wreath winner will be announced at the library. At the same time, another story time session is planned.
At 3 p.m., the Endean Academy of Irish Dance will perform in the tent.
At 3:30 p.m., the winner of the wreath decorating contest will be announced at the library.
At 4 p.m., a harpist will perform at the library.
The event will culminate at 5 p.m. with the tree lighting ceremony, to be held at the gazebo in front of the library.
Other Events
A “Holiday Wreath Decorating Contest” will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Roxbury Township Public Library, 103 Main St., Succasunna. Patrons are invited to “plan a fun, creative way to enjoy the holiday season this year by submitting a wreath for the contest.”
All are welcome to join, including residents, local merchants, churches, civic organizations, local sports teams, clubs, families and individuals. There is no fee for this event.
“Celebrate Christmas with Chris Westfall” at 7:30 p.m. at the RoxPAC at Investors Bank Theater, 72 Eyland Ave., Succasunna. This is an evening of Christmas music on both piano and guitar. He will perform some familiar Christmas songs and some of his own compositions. General admission tickets are $20. Members are $15. “Rudolph” will be performed at noon and 3 p.m. at the Investors Performing Arts Center, RoxPAC, located at 72 Eyland Ave., Succasunna. JAM Theater will present the timeless tale of the misfit reindeer. Tickets are $10 for adults. Seniors are $8 and children are $8. Join the Roxbury High School’s Interact Club in pajamas for a screening of “The Polar Express” at 6:30 p.m. in the Roxbury High School auditorium. Doors open at 6:30 and the show starts at 7 p.m. Come for a fun-filled night with a sing-along and pictures with Santa. Tickets are $3 each for children, $5 for adults. Children get in free with a toy for a patient at Children’s Specialized Hospital. All proceeds will go to the DeBarros Family.
