Whether you love family-friendly plays, music, or want to teach the kids how to give back to the community, there’s an event happening in the Upstate this weekend.
Feeling up for a play this weekend? “Mary Poppins” will be presented by Greer Children’s Theatre Nov. 6-8, 13-15 at the J. Harley Bonds Career Center. Friday and Saturday performances will be held at 7 p.m., and Sunday shows are at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students, seniors, and military, and $7 for children 5 and younger. Disney On Ice presents Let’s Celebrate! will skate into the Bon Secours Wellness Arena later this month, but first, families will get a chance to help a worthy cause and walk away with free vouchers for the show. The Unbirthday Party Food Drive will be held noon-2 p.m. Nov. 7 at the plaza outside of Bon Secours Wellness Arena. The celebration will include party hats, face painting, balloon animals, a live radio remote from Rhonda Rawlings of 1073 JAMZ, prizes and more. Families who donate five cans or more during the food drive will also receive a complimentary ticket voucher for opening night while they last. Limit two per family, and supplies are limited. All donations will help replenish Harvest Hope Food Bank’s vault of canned goods.
The Run4Life 5K begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Caine Halter YMCA. This family-friendly event also includes a one-mile fun walk and quarter-mile children’s run. A smoothie bar, live music and other activities will follow the race. Proceeds benefit lung cancer research at the Cancer Institute of Greenville Health System and cancer support services offered through the Cancer Society of Greenville County. Families can register their kids for a free hands-on workshop 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at Home Depot stores across the Upstate. The theme will be “Build a Veterans Day Jet,” and children ages 5-12 are invited to participate. Greenville Classical Academy’s Fall Festival and Holiday Market is 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday at the school. The event will include vendors, a kids’ area and more. Visit www.GreenvilleFallFestival.com.
Bring the kids to the Children’s Museum of the Upstate between 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday for the Instrument Petting Zoo. Children will be allowed to touch, play and listen to different instruments with Furman University students there to assist them. This special event is free with the price of admission.
