A LISTED building n Manningtree that dates back to the early 19th Century is set to be restored to its former glory.
Eugene House, in South Street, has been listed as being at risk since 1993 and is classed as ‘poor’ on the Essex Heritage at Risk register.
Plans for the Grade II listed building include rebuilding a collapsed and derelict side extension, as well as a new pitched roof to the north side of the property, reinstatement of attic room windows and alterations to the rear ground floor elevation.
The site in in the Manningtree and Mistley Conservation Area and surrounded by several other listed buildings and appears on Essex County Council’s buildings at risk register.
Manningtree Town Council backed the proposal for a property, which has suffered from years of neglect.
A spokesman for Tendring Council said: “Its collapse or loss would be detrimental to the conservation area.”
The new owner bought the building in 2013, just as it was very close to falling down.
The council has imposed eight conditions on the scheme which will help preserve the character and appearance of the house.
