Plans to convert an empty listed building in the centre of Alnwick into a crêperie and apartments have been submitted to the county council.

The proposals, by the Stablewood Group, are for Narrowgate House, otherwise referred to as General Lambert’s House, which is a grade II*-listed building.

The main building would be converted into five flats with a further three residential units built in the grounds to the rear of the property, while the basement would host the crêperie.

Vehicular access to the rear of the site can only be gained from Pottergate and it is proposed to demolish the coach house and stable block to allow for a wider access, more suitable for modern vehicles. Parking for 11 cars would be provided on-site.

These proposals first came to light in March this year when the Gazette reported on a range of plans by family-run leisure company, the Stablewood Group.

Starting off as a holiday-cottage business, this year the Johnson family took on the Apple Inn at Lucker as well as opening the Apple Core over the road.

The group has received planning permission for a leisure facility in the complex of Lucker Hall Steadings while Stablewood Equestrian runs Alnwick Ford Equestrian at Longframlington.
