Patrick Kane Listed On Blackhawks’ Training Camp Roster

(CBS) While questions surround his future as he’s being investigated following a rape allegation, Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane is listed on the team’s training camp roster and is expected to attend.

Chicago opens training camp Friday morning at Notre Dame. On Thursday afternoon, president/CEO John McDonough, general manager Stan Bowman and coach Joel Quenneville will be available to the media.

The Blackhawks still haven’t publicly commented on Kane and detailed what his full status with the team is moving forward.

Kane, 26, hasn’t been charged in the sexual assault case as officials with the Hamburg police and the Erie County District Attorney’s Office continue to investigate the events surrounding the early morning hours of Aug. 2, when Kane returned to his Hamburg, N.Y., home with a friend, the alleged victim and one of her friends after a night out at the bar.

Kane’s presence creates a big dilemma for the team, CBS Sports NHL writer Chris Peters told CBS 2’s Marissa Bailey.

“Think about all the changes that have been made to that team. It was a new team to begin with.

“So if you really get to the hockey portion of things, this is a team that has to learn and get to know each other in this training camp.

“And meanwhile they have this dark cloud hanging over them. I think that’s going to present a lot of problems for Joel Quenneville. I think it presents sort of a dilemma for Patrick Kane himself to be the one who’s creating the distraction for the team.”

“All the questions are not going to be about hockey. They’re going to be about Patrick Kane. They’ll be about this decision and there’s probably going to be a lot of questions they’re not ready to answer or don’t want to answer.”

A grand jury proceeding is expected to take place in the coming weeks.

In other notable training camp roster inclusions, free agent defensemen Michal Rozsival and Kyle Cumiskey have invites and will be trying to make the roster. Receiving a professional tryout will be defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky.
