We’ll be cracking open a few crates of beer tonight to celebrate Brixton Buzz passing the landmark figure of three million page views, with over nine thousand local events now being listed on the site.
In the past twelve months, traffic on the site has grown exponentially – it was only back in April 2014 that we were feeling chuffed about reaching the landmark of a million page views – so thanks to all you lovely people for visiting us!
We started Buzz just over three years ago, and the site remains proudly independent, advertising-free and entirely non profit.
Run by volunteers who are passionate about living in Brixton, the site receives no funding whatsoever – in fact, any money we do make we give away to the local community!
Because we don’t rely on advertising income or grants, we can’t be influenced by sponsors, advertisers, Lambeth council, local businesses or anyone else, giving us the freedom to dig deep for the facts and publish uncomfortable truths if need be.
Supporting the community
Brixton Buzz has also been very active in supporting the community: in June this year we organised a big fundraising concert for residents of the threatened Cressingham Gardens estate.
Our show at the Electric Brixton pulled in over a thousand people and featured local bands like the Alabama 3 and the Fat White Family.
We also helped the striking Ritzy workers raise over a thousand pounds at a benefit show in Brixton last year, and were recently involved in a recent fundraiser for Dulwich Hamlet FC.
Uniquely, we also brew our own selection of Brixton Buzz beers, with all the profits going to local causes.
Brewed locally by the London Beer Lab, we give away all the profits to local charities and worthy causes with recipients including the Brixton Soup Kitchen, Loughborough Farm and Save Cressingham Gardens.
Our fabulous Coldharbour Courage beer is currently for sale at the Brixton Port Authority Bar at Pop Brixton.
Buzz free club nights
Brixton Buzz also runs regular Offline Club nights in Brixton, where we put on fun events with interesting bands and party loving DJs. We’ll be Upstairs at Market House next on Friday 25th Sept – it’s free before 10pm.
Fact feast!
