With more than 230 free events across Norfolk, the open buildings, guided tours, walks, exhibitions and performances have already been booking up.
Co-ordinated by Norwich HEART (Heritage Economic and Regeneration Trust), the heritage spectacular will run from September 10 to 13.
A free brochure of events is available from venues across Norfolk and at www.heritagecity.org/hods.
Here are 10 events you can just drop in to
Priory Gardens, which will be open as part of the Heritage Open Days
1. The Guildhall, Thetford: There has been a guildhall on the site since the 14th century. The current building was used as courtrooms until the second half of the 20th century. There will be two performances of The Capable Convict Henry Kable and in the large court there will be Georgian-themed costumed characters and an opportunity to handle historical objects. Upstairs is the Jack Pilling Art Gallery, providing exhibition space to artists and a coffee shop.
Saturday, September 12: 10am to 4pm.
The Capable Convict Henry Kable performances: 1.30pm, 3pm.
2. Wherry Hathor at Pulls Ferry, Norwich: This is a rare visit to Norwich by the unique pleasure wherry, built in 1905 for the Colman sisters. It is an iconic symbol of the Edwardian discovery of the Broads as a holiday destination. Newly relaunched, her colourful Egyptian-themed interiors have been restored to their original grandeur by the Wherry Yacht Charter Charitable Trust.
Thursday to Sunday: 10am to 5pm.
3. Priory Gardens, Priory Plain, Great Yarmouth: Groups and schools will be exhibiting their local heritage projects within the setting of Priory Gardens.
There will be a marquee housing a vintage tearoom and various activities will be taking place too.
Sunday: 10am to 4pm.
4. Tea and Memories at The Swan Hotel, Harleston: The Tea and Memories event invites people to share memories and memorabilia from days gone by. Bring old photographs, letters, granny’s recipe book or grandad’s medals and share memories of life in the Waveney Valley. You can hear about the Great War project being run by Waveney Archaeology Group and tea and cakes are provided.
Sunday: 3pm to 5pm
5. Market Place, North Walsham: Making History! Arts North Norfolk gives people the chance to look at the town’s heritage by experiencing its rich history through everyday objects, photographs and stories. There is a historical treasure trail for children too.
