Ofcom allows ITV exclusive live TV coverage of 2015 Rugby World Cup

With Vern Cotter’s Scotland squad looking as if it has the power and the scorers to go somewhere this year, there will  be an enthusiastic audience for the televising of the matches in the 2015 Rugby World cup.

Ofcom has given consent for ITV to broadcast exclusive live TV coverage of the event.

The tournament begins on 18th September. The majority of matches, including all games involving England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales and matches from the quarter-finals stage onwards, will be shown on ITV, STV and UTV.

Up to 10 matches from the tournament will be shown on ITV4 or another ITV portfolio channel with similar coverage. ITV also plans to show highlights of all matches on ITV1 and ITV4.

The BBC has acquired the rights to live radio coverage of the tournament, which will be broadcast on BBC Radio Five Live.

Matches in the Rugby World Cup Tournament are ‘Group B’ Listed Events under the Broadcasting Act 1996, with exception of matches from the quarter-finals stage onwards which are ‘Group A’ Listed Events.
