MARSH DAISY registered her first win since last season’s Height of Fashion Stakes when brought with a sweeping run by Ioritz Mendizabal, scoring by a length from the favourite Alzubra with Lavender Lane a length and a quarter further back in third.
The field were towed along at a good pace by the David Simcock-trained Momentus, who looked for a long time like she would be fighting out the finish until finally giving way inside the final furlong.
‘Back to her best’
“The form looks solid and she has come back to her best,” said winning trainer Hughie Morrison.
“She is a good filly and she lost her way a bit after the Oaks last season. Jimmy Fortune said she would have been third at York on her comeback if she hadn’t got stopped so often and I think she has certainly come on for that effort.”
Ground no problem
Marsh Daisy has been campaigned with soft ground as a prerequisite but, despite the drying conditions, she picked up extremely well for Mendizabal.
Morrison added: “She is in the Denny Cordell Lanwades Stud Stakes at Gowran Park in a couple of weeks and a couple of other races so we will have to see where we go next.
“The jockey said it was on the slow side of good but she seemed to move beautifully.”
