With hairspray and lipstick at the ready, fashion fans enjoyed a special lesson in how to get the vintage look at one of Norwich’s museums.

About 24 people enjoyed taking part in the Museum of Norwich at the Bridewell’s first vintage style day yesterday.
Amy Taylor, known as Flamingo Amy, gave them tips on how to do victory rolls and 1950s rolled fringes, and said “patience, hairspray and a good brush” were the key things needed to perfect the looks.
When asked why she was inspired by 1940s and 50s fashion, she said: “It just has a certain beauty.
“People took a lot of time over their hair and had a lot of pride in it.”

Meanwhile, Emily Turnbull, from Love Moi, shared make-up advice, and said eyeliner and lipstick were the key make-up items needed to perfect the 1950s glamorous movie star look.
She said: “I just think it is really timeless and anyone can wear it and incorporate elements of it into their make-up. It is a really classic glamorous look, and you cannot beat it really.” Ruth Burwood, a curator at the museum, also showed outfits from decades past from the museum’s collection, and the day finished with a traditional British tea party.
Jenny Caynes, curator at the Museum of Norwich, said the day was a great way of opening up the museum to a new audience and that there could be more events like this in the future.
