Another great weekend filled with unique genre events is happening around Chicagoland, and there’s certainly no worry about the options being slim pickings. Wizard World Comic Con takes over Rosemont as usual this time of year, with the 2nd Annual Bruce Campbell Horror Film Festival being the focal point for horror fans. If that’s not a feasible option, there are plenty of other choices in the list below.
Bruce Campbell’s Horror Film Festival – In its second year, the films are just as impressive thanks to The Awesome Fest. Friday night at 7:30pm, catch the 30th Anniversary screening of Fright Night followed by a QA with writer/director Tom Holland. On Saturday, Bruce Campbell introduces Bubba Ho-Tep at 7:00pm, and on Sunday, Eli Roth introduces Cannibal Holocaust with a huge pile of meat for attendees to dine on a “cannibal breakfast.” All films are listed in my previous post. Festival runs through Sunday at Muvico Theaters, 9701 Bryn Mawr, Rosemont, IL 60018. Please go HERE for tickets and full information.
DARK STAR: H.R. Giger’s World – Finally, a solid venue offering fans a look into H.R. Giger’s life in this intimate documentary by Belinda Sallin. Screens Friday at 11:00pm; Saturday at 5:45pm, 7:45pm 9:45pm; and Sunday at 3:45pm 5:45pm.
Film noir at the Siskel Film Center – “Casting Dark Shadows: Film Noir Revisited” runs through September 2nd at the Gene Siskel Film Center. Saturday, August 22nd, see Cast a Dark Shadow (1955) at 3:00pm (8/26 at 6:15pm) and Corridor of Mirrors (1948) at 4:45pm (8/24 at 6:00pm). 164 North State Street.
