Carlisle and Huntingdon have been confirmed as the venues for two new Listed mares’ chases to run be run later this season.
The British Horseracing Authority announced plans to enhance the mares’ chase programme last month and it has now revealed the details of the two new events.
Both races will be run over two and a half miles and offer prize-money of at least £30,000.
Carlisle’s contest takes place on November 29, while Huntingdon’s new event will be staged on February 25.
Ruth Quinn, BHA director of international racing and racing development, said:”The new races outlined are a further step in developing an aspirational programme of races for mares.
“It is hoped that this will help to further encourage meaningful change in behaviour, with the long-term objective of bolstering the number of jumping mares in training.
“These two new races bring us a step closer to implementing a comprehensive black type mares’ steeplechase programme in Britain, with the longer-term ambition being to have a mares’ chase added to the Cheltenham Festival card.”
