Explorium opening, events listed

HORICON | August at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center, N7725 Highway 28, marks the grand opening of the Horicon Marsh Explorium.

All programs are free and open to the public and do not require advance registration, unless otherwise noted.

Aug. 15

The Movies at the Marsh series continues from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. with a screening of “Lion King 1 1/2,” a family-friendly movie. Don’t miss this opportunity to see your favorite movies on the big screen. All movies are family-friendly (rated G or PG), free and open to the public. Refreshments are available. Use the lower entrance.

Aug. 21

Join a wildlife educator for a guided sunset hike at Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Watch as resident birds fly back into the marsh to roost and enjoy a view of the sunset.

Aug. 22

The grand opening of the new Explorium exhibit will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Features include guest speakers, ribbon cutting, live animals, guided hikes, crafts and more. Entrance s free for the day. Visit “Horicon Marsh” to learn more and to register for a tour or a guided hike.

Aug. 24

Prairie Walk, 10 a.m. Join staff for a prairie walk and view blooming native wildflowers.

Dip Netting, 6:30 p.m. Bring the family for dip netting and see what kind of unique creatures are living in the marsh.

Aug. 25

Beginning Birding, 10 a.m. View resident birds with a beginning birding program.

Predators of the Marsh, 6:30 p.m.

Dip Netting, 10 a.m.

Beginning Birding, 6:30 p.m.

Aug. 27

Archery day 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Come try out the National Archery in the Schools equipment.

Aug. 28

Wild Edibles of the Marsh, 10 a.m.

Night Sounds Hike, 6:30 p.m. Listen for the sounds of the marsh.

Aug. 29

Edible Berries, 10-11 a.m. Join master naturalist Chris Lilek as she explains why all berries aren’t good to eat. Come find out which ones are a delicious treat.
