One of Bearsden’s most magnificent buildings, Boclair House, situated at the foot of Boclair Hill, is set to become a wedding venue.

WPH Developments Limited paid £1,050,000 for the historic building a few years ago.

Manorview Hotels, who will run the hotel, now plan to turn the Grade B listed building into a boutique hotel with the surrounding two acres of landscaped gardens.

They will be marketing the Tudor Gothic mansion as an ideal wedding venue and place to stay for a luxury break and hope to open it in around six months time.

Scaffolding has now been put up on the hotel, while the land behind will be the site of nine large five and six bedroom individually-designed detached houses.

A showhome will be launched by Westpoint Homes Ltd next month and they are anticipating mid-to-late August for a preview for anyone interested in buying a property in the development.

They have sold a third of the houses already.

Manorview Hotel Group has recently applied for planning permission and listed building consent.

They have submitted a planning application for a single storey ground floor extension to the rear elevation of Boclair House on Milngavie Road.

They have asked for permission to create new stone steps and a bandstand in the front gardens and to replace the existing metal handrail to the entrance with stone balusters.

Their plans also include the erection of a new timber fence to the boundary, the addition of an external store and to install glazed lights to the existing roof.

Boclair House was used as council offices by East Dunbartonshire Council until 2011 and put up for sale in 2012.

Originally called the Buchanan Retreat, the iconic red sandstone mansion was built from legacies left by three sisters, the Misses Buchanan of Bellfield in Ayrshire, who wished to provide for poorer members of the Buchanan clan in their declining years.
