The work of a young Eastbourne sculptor is being displayed as part of an exhibition showcasing some of the finest up-and-coming artists from across the UK.
Queenie Clarke, a former Ratton pupil who studied at Camberwell College of Arts, , was one of just 12 young artists shortlisted for this year’s prestigious Woon Foundation Art and Sculpture Prize.
Despite missing out on the top prize, Queenie has been given the honour of having her work put on display at BALTIC 39, a contemporary art hub in the heart of Newcastle, until August 2.
She also won £6,000 in prize money after impressing the competition’s judging panel.
Queenie was shortlisted for her sculptural works, which focus on the engagement between architecture and movement.
The prize, sponsored by Northumbria University law graduate and philanthropist Mr Wee Teng Woon, is equal in value to Britain’s biggest art award, the Turner Prize.
Queenie said, “I am really excited to have the opportunity to show work in BALTIC 39. I think it will be great to have the chance to show work with other young artists who are at the same stage as me, just finishing a degree, yet from various universities across the country.”
