Teachers in Berkshire are among some of the highest paid in the country, according to official figures.
The average staff salary at Churchend Primary School Academy in Calcot is £48,823 a year, the ninth most in any school outside London.
Research by Trinity Mirror’s data team revealed the 10 schools with the lowest and highest average pay across Reading, Wokingham, West Berkshire and Bracknell.
Oakbank in Wokingham is the highest paying secondary school, with an average salary of £43,494.
At the other end of the scale, Hampstead Norreys C.E. Primary School in West Berkshire is the lowest paying. Teachers here earn an average of £27,016.
The secondary school with the lowest average salary is Garth Hill College, with £35,796.
Across towns, Wokingham pays the highest. The average salary for the entire town is £37,358, nearly £1,000 higher than Reading which was the lowest at £36,411.
The figures are based on data from 2013, the most recent available. All areas showed an average salary increase from 2012.
But the NUT said differences largely reflect varying staff experience rather than the generosity of schools, with most salaries based on nationally agreed pay scales.
Avis Gilmore, of the NUT, said: “The vast majority of schools have a pay system based on the national pay scales. When a teacher qualifies they are paid at the bottom of the scale and they progress up the pay scale for six years.
“To give the average salary for any school or area tells you nothing about the salary of any individual teacher. If the average salary in any school is high, it is likely to have teachers who have been in the profession for more than six years.”
