Bid launched to save pub from demolition

A NORTH Lincolnshire pub could be saved from demolition after a bid to have it listed as an “asset of community value”.

It closed in January 2014, with developers hoping to demolish and redevelop the site of The Flixborough Inn, on Flixborough High Street.

However, Flixborough Parish Council believes the site is of significant value to the community and could be used as a youth centre or internet cafe.

Parish councillors have requested it be listed as an “asset of community value” by North Lincolnshire Council as they say it could be used for a range of community and social events.

Merryvale Developments, of West Stockwith, previously submitted a planning application to have the site demolished.

If plans to have it listed as an asset are approved, community groups will have six weeks to register their interest as potential bidders once the owner informs the local authority of plans to dispose of the site. If no bidders come forward in that time, the owner can proceed with the disposal.

The parish council plans to seek funding from a range of organisations and put together a business plan.

They are also hoping a successful bid for ownership will also ensure trees adjacent to the site, which are part of a memorial for the people lost in the Nypro disaster at Flixborough, will be preserved.
