Jessica Ennis-Hill is listed to compete in the Sainsbury UK Championships and Trials at Birmingham starting today and continuing over the weekend.

The Olympic champion tackles her best event, the 100m hurdles, which promises to be one of the most keenly contested events of the meeting.

Tiffany Porter – who broke Ennis-Hill’s UK record – starts favourite and her younger sister Cindy Ofili is also in the field.

She will be the centre of much attention having recently decided to use her UK ancestral qualification to compete for GB rather that the USA.

Lucy Hatton, who beat Ennis-Hill in Manchester is also running and Ennis-Hill’s young heptathlon rival Katarina Johnson-Thompson is also listed.

Ennis-Hill will be looking to run around 13 seconds, possibly just beating that barrier.

Such is the quality that City of Sheffield pair, Zarah Hohn and Kelly Clark, will do well to reach the final.

The meeting is a trial for the World Championships in August with Luke Cutts (City of Sheffield and Dearne) aiming to clinch selection for the pole vault.

He will be challenged by his young team mate Adam Hague, 17, who did well last week in a junior event in Germany.

Lee Emanuel (City of Sheffield) goes for the 1500m and is hoping to recapture the form which gave him a European indoor silver medal earlier this year.

Mukhtar Mohammed (Sheffield RC) challenges for a place in the 800m although he has yet to compete outdoors over that distance this year.

City of Sheffield junior Joe Lancaster is also entered and should get valuable experience at this level.

Sheffield duo Jack Houghton, Northern champion, and international Rick Yates should both be prominent in the 400m hurdles, as should brothers Joe and Haran Dunderdale in the javelin and steeplechase respectively.

Tim Burn is another City of Sheffield runner who should do well in the 400m whilst Hallamshire’s Andy Heyes goes for the 5000m.

Sheffield-based international sprinter Louise Bloor faces tough opposition in both the 100m and 200m where junior Kristie Edwards is also in strong line ups for both events.

Another Sheffield junior, Abigail Roberts competes against the seniors in the pole vault.

Calli Thackery (Hallamshire) is in the women’s 5000m, safe in the knowledge of selection for the European U23 Championships in Estonia following some top performances at her New Mexico University base.

Also announced this week was the GB team for the World Youth Championships in Columbia with places for James Gormley (City of Sheffield) and Alicia Barrett (Chesterfield) in the 100m hurdles.
