AFTER concerns were raised over a dilapidated building in Market Street, planning applications have been submitted to secure its future.

5 Market Street was previously used as a retail space for clothing and fashion items.

As well as improving the state of the listed building, proposals include a change of use from retail to retail, restaurant and business use.

Owner Jimmy Yu has outlined initial ideas for a cafe on the ground floor, serving teas and cakes.

The upstairs would be used as an office space.

The application includes plans to remove and replace the shop front, including the tiles and windows.

Pictures attached to the online application show the inside of the building is also in need of repair.

Internal renovations will include a new staircase, counter, flooring and cupboards.

The wall and ceiling work will also need to be replaced.

A separate planning application has been put forward for a fascia sign on the front of the shop.

According to the plans the shop and cafe will be open from 10.30am until 5pm Mondays to Fridays and 11am to 3pm on Saturdays.

Comments on the plans are being accepted until July 14.
