Staff at the Gravesend Old Town Hall are offering a £500 reward for people with information about “mindless vandalism” on the Grade II listed building.
The black scribbles appeared between 4pm on Saturday (June 27) and 10am on Sunday, and an appeal has been launched to find those responsible.
Venue supervisor Dean Nelson told News Shopper it is a recurring problem, and that he washed the mess off the white walls himself on Sunday morning.
Mr Nelson said: “They cover their faces so we have put an appeal out there.
“We seem to always get targetted. It’s all white as well.
“It’s an effort to keep cleaning it.
“It’s not nice – is it? It’s just annoying.”
Gravesham councillor Steve Thompson, who runs the hall on behalf of Kent County Council, added: “I think these almost look like signatures, so I was hoping somebody might say: ‘I recognise that.’
“Of course we have CCTV footage, so if we can put a face to the name, that would be good.
“It’s a heritage building so its disgraceful that people do not respect that.”
A Town Hall spokesman wrote on Facebook: “Do you recognise these tags?
“Please share these photographs and help stop this mindless vandalism.
“The building is a Grade II* listed heritage venue and is one of Gravesend’s most historic assets.”
Old Town Hall Limited will pay rewards of up to £500 for information which helps to prosecute those responsible.
