RIBA awards: Step inside the Liverpool home long-listed for the Manser Medal

Liverpool architects have been recognised in the long-list for RIBA’s New Home of the Year.

Snook Architects, with offices on Duke Street, have been longlisted for the 2015 RIBA Manser Medal for the design of ‘Westmorland’, a California-style home based in Liverpool.

The Manser Medal is the Royal Institute of British Architect’s award for the best new house in Britain, and celebrates the best of British design

Neil Dawson, the project’s architect and director of Snook Architects said the project was particularly special as Snook also built it, too.

He said: “I’m obviously very pleased, if not a little surprised – it is great news.

“As well as designing it, we also built it which is unusual for us but very rewarding.

“I acted as project manager on the job so got the house built as well as designing, which was a bit of a departure for us – like many architects we were badly hit by the recession – rather than sitting at home crying into our cocoa that we had no work we thought laterally and decided to have a go at construction after having done some previously on my own house.”

A home in Formby designed by architects ShedKM who have offices in Bold Street, also features in the list.
