Bath’s Mr B’s Emporium of Reading Delights has been listed in world’s top ten book shops.
The list, compiled by The Guardian newspaper and based on readers’ recommendations, has listed the John Street book shop as number eight in the list of independent traders.
The newspaper said: “This indie bookshop in central Bath not only has a great selection of books, a cosy atmosphere and comfy armchairs – it also offers services like bibliotherapy and “reading spas”, during which staff engage in one-on-one conversations with readers over a mug of coffee and recommend books they think are especially suited to that person.”
Mr B’s Emporium of Reading Delights is in good company with Powell’s City of Books, in Oregon USA, Acqua Alta, in Venice Italy, and El Ateneo, in Buenos Aires Argentina, also making the list.
The Bath store is owned and run by husband and wife team Nic and Juliette Bottomley who left their jobs working in London to open the book shop in 2006.
