Listed police station redevelopment brought to market

The grade II-listed building on North Park Road was designed by West Riding county architect Percy Oates Platts and was occupied as the police headquarters for the Claro Division from 1930 up until 2012 when the police relocated to a purpose built headquarters.

Purchased by Harrogate Restoration in May 2013, the building is currently being converted into 16 apartments and four houses, with an additional five houses being built in the grounds.

Anne Haggas, head of the new homes division for Carter Jonas in the North, said: “The development of the Old Police Station provides a fantastic opportunity to acquire individually designed apartments or houses within a secure gated environment, situated within a stone’s throw of Harrogate’s cosmopolitan town centre. Harrogate has been voted the happiest place to live by Rightmove in 2013 and 2014.”

The former police station was listed after an application to demolish the building to make way for the new Harrogate Borough Council Offices was criticised by local residents and the Harrogate Civic Trust. The grade II listing is designed to provide heritage protection for the future redevelopment of the site.
