The National Trust is inviting families to a string of special events at some of Surrey’s top beauty spots this Father’s Day.
Whether he enjoys archery, classic cars, walks in captivating gardens, history hunting through houses, kite flying or simply getting closer to nature, the National Trust has everything you need to help dad and the rest of the family have a great day out.
Create special memories at any of these events held on June 21 and help support the National Trust’s charitable work to care for special places forever for everyone too.
Father’s Day event guide:
- Claremont Landscape Garden
Enjoy a picturesque stroll through the landscape garden and wander around a car display of vehicles from the 1930’s onwards organised by Surrey Classic Car Owners Club. The cafe will be open for hot lunches from 12pm-2.30pm and afternoon teas until 5pm. Free admission for dads when accompanied by their children. The event runs from 10am- 6pm (last admission at 5.30pm) with the car display taking place from 11am-3pm. Address: Portsmouth Road, Esher, KT10 9JG
- Ham House
Explore a Stuart mansion on the banks of the River Thames, near Richmond, and stroll in the 17th century formal gardens, kitchen garden and wilderness. Dads go free if accompanied by their kids. The event runs from 10am-5pm (last admission time 4.30pm). Address: Ham Street, Richmond, TW10 7RS
- Hatchlands Park
Bring your dad along to Hatchlands and help him show off his flying skills at a kite day. Bring your own kite, and even have a go at making one of your own designs in a kite craft workshop. Normal admission plus £3 per child. The event runs from 11am-4pm. Address: East Clandon, Guildford, GU4 7RT
- Winkworth Arboretum
This destination is the perfect place for a relaxing stroll in the fresh air and stunning surroundings. Have a go at archery while you are there and let loose a few arrows after experts have shown how to do so safely. Normal admission plus £2 ticket for six arrows. The event runs from 11am-4pm. Address: Hascombe Road, Godalming, GU8 4AD
For dads who prefer a taste of the wild, other National Trust places for exploring include Hindhead Commons and the Devil’s Punchbowl, Black Down near Haslemere and Leith Hill, near Dorking. Leith Hill Tower is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year and has new telescopes installed, to help see even more of the incredible views from the top.
Or if your dad loves rivers or finding out how things work, go to Dapdune Wharf on the River Wey Navigations in Guildford or Shalford Mill.
For military history buffs there are some mysterious forts at Reigate Hill and Box Hill that you can explore from the outside during your walk.
Leith Hill Place is a historic house with a uniquely informal feel and musical connections where you can play the pianos, take a soundscape tour and make yourself a cup of tea.
There is no need to book in advance for any of the events listed above. Just turn up on the day and have fun.
