Katharine Hepburn’s Connecticut estate listed at $14.8M

Legendary actress Katharine Hepburn may be a Hollywood icon, but her hometown of Fenwick is the only place she ever called home.

A New York Times article about her famous house in that small town noted that in her last will and testament, she identified herself simply as ”I, Katharine Hepburn, of Fenwick, Connecticut.”

So when a hurricane tore down her Fenwick childhood home in 1938, it wasn’t long before Hepburn rebuilt on the land.

Stories circulate that when she commissioned the construction of the house, she built a model using FAO Schwarz blocks.

That model may helped to communicate the simple but beautiful house that’s now for sale. When compared to other homes in the area–many of which are much less expensive–the Hepburn House is not very elaborate. It’s simple with a brown border, unlike the shingled cottages in the neighborhood.

The six-bedroom, 8,368-square-foot waterfront estate comes with its own private beach, a private dock several outdoor lounges.

The home is listed at $14.8 million. Colette Harron of Sotheby’s International has the listing.
