BOSSES at Burton’s Queen’s Hospital are celebrating after it was named as one of the country’s top hospitals.
Staff were delighted to learn that Burton NHS Foundation Trust made it into the top 40 list compiled by CHKS, which champions excellence among NHS trusts.
The ratings are based on the evaluation of 20 key performance indicators covering safety, clinical effectiveness, health outcomes, efficiency, patient experience and quality of care. Burton had slipped out of the list in 2014 having been in the top 40 for the previous six years.
Helen Ashley, chief executive of the trust, applauded staff on the achievement.
She said: “We are delighted to be named as one of the 40 top hospitals for 2015.
“This is a tribute to the hard work of all our staff and reflects the important improvements we are continually making in patient care, patient safety and patient experience at our three hospitals.”
This comes at a time when Queen’s Hospital is striving to improve standards and come out of special measures.
A Care Quality Commission report published in 2014 found that Queen’s Hospital, in Belvedere Road, Burton, ‘requires improvement’ in six of eight categories.
Bosses are now hoping that an updated report, set to be released later this year, will show an improvement for the hospital.
The top 40 hospitals were announced at an awards ceremony earlier this month.
More than 200 guests attended the event in London on May 19. Guests included leaders from across the health industry.
Jason Harries, managing director of CHKS, said: “These awards recognise outstanding performance in those areas which we believe are critical to delivering good patient care.
“We are delighted that Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of our top hospitals in 2015.”
