Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson accused of bullying Love Activists

Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson has been accused of bullying by protest group the Love Activists

The accusation relates to a tweet sent from the mayors Twitter account yesterday. Mayor Anderson replied to one member of the group currently occupying the Pier Head, stating that nuclear weapons were being stored to bomb the activist’s home town of Birkenhead.

Many took to Facebook to criticise the Labour councillor for the comments and the apparent direct attack on a ‘young love activist’.

Anderson has also been accused by the activists of ‘social cleansing’.

The Love Activists have spent their third day protesting at the Pier Head, placing flyers on the crowded walkways during The Three Queens events and addressed crowds with megaphones.

Despite taking a very central position on the Liverpool waterfront on the busy weekend, the group appears to have made little impact with their list of demands continuing to be ignored by Mayor Anderson.

It was revealed earlier this month that the group’s 42-day occupancy of the former Bank of England building in Castle Street cost the city’s tax payers over £200,000 in policing costs while the damage done to interior of the listed building is yet to be determined.
