Former Bury captain Jim McNulty is among the departures after the League One new boys announced their retained list.
Pablo Mills and Joe Thompson have also been released while midfielder Nicky Adams has been made available for transfer.
Chris Sedgwick had already announced he was retiring after Bury clinched automatic promotion on the final day of the season.
Top scorer Danny Nardiello and second-choice goalkeeper Rob Lainton have been offered new deals.
McNulty, 30, had begun last season as the Shakers’ skipper, playing alongside Mills in the centre of defence. But both eventually lost their place and McNulty lost the armband to Nathan Cameron.
McNulty finished with 22 league starts, his last coming at York in March, so the former Stockport County man watched from the sidelines during Bury’s promotion charge.
Mills, also 30, made 18 league starts and finished the season on loan at Cheltenham. Both were among David Flitcroft’s first signings as Bury boss in January 2014.
Flitcroft offered Thompson a one-year deal last summer after the ex- Rochdale midfielder was told he was in remission from cancer.
The 26-year-old made just four substitute appearances and had brief loan spells at Wrexham and Southport.
Thompson said: “Thank you to everyone associated with Bury FC, a place going in the right direction! I’ve nothing but gratitude, have made memories and friends.”
Cameron is among 12 players on the retained list having been the only man to feature in every league game.
Keeper Nick Pope and fellow loanee Adam El-Abd have returned to their parent clubs – for the time being at least.
Youth players offered professional contracts are Scott Burgess, Matty Foulds, Anthony Dudley, Jack Ruddy, Marcus Poscha and Brayden Shaw.
Retained List: Nathan Cameron, Kelvin Etuhu, Hallam Hope, Chris Hussey, Craig Jones, Ryan Lowe, Danny Mayor, Keil O’Brien, Joe Riley, Danny Rose, Tom Soares, Andrew Tutte.
