ELLWOOD CITY — The annual Ellwood City Relay For Life event, “Colors For The Cure,” begins at noon Saturday and continues until midnight at Helling Stadium in Ewing Park.
The stadium will become a “Rainbow” splash of color to symbolize the ribbons of cancer. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. The public is invited to view the events, which will include the following:
Noon – Opening ceremony: Lori Anderson, welcome; the Rev. Norina Owens, invocation; Ellwood City Civic Chorale, National Anthem; Logan McCarthy, “Colors of the Wind;” Jenna Vetica, “Over the Rainbow;” Diamond Dance Academy dancers to perform; cancer survivors will head to the track for introductions and the survivor lap; and teams will be announced followed by the team banner lap.
2 p.m. – “Fairy Sock Mother” presented by Nancy Wallace of the Ellwood City Area Public Library at the Kids’ Tent; and bingo at the Survivor’s Tent
3 p.m. – Tony Barge and band to perform
4 p.m. – Fun laps: “Hokey-Pokey,” “Macarena” and “Chicken Dance”
5 p.m. – Fun laps: Games – Poker, blackjack, scrabble, etc.
6 p.m. – Fun laps: Women only, men only, parent and children, etc.
7 p.m. – “Elvis Tribute Artist” Doug Horton
8 p.m. – Auction and luminary sales close and gift basket auction winners announced
9 p.m. – Luminary program, including a silent lap by all participants. (Please sit quietly in the stands if not walking.)
10 p.m. – Pizza party courtesy of Johnny’s Pizza for relayers.
11 p.m. – Clean up
Midnight – Closing ceremony
The Relay For Life Committee will begin setting up for the event at 6 p.m. Friday – hanging banners, putting up signs, cleaning concession stands and setting up a stage for Saturday. Team captains can stop by and pick up shirts and drop off silent auction baskets. Committee members are asked to be at the stadium by 8 a.m. Saturday.
