Almost three months after pulling out of Mineral Wells, Baker Hughes has listed its facility at 555 Grant Road for sale, a move that could prove a boon to Mineral Wells’ economic development.
The international oil and gas exploration, drilling and production company closed its Mineral Wells facility in late January, with the cost of about 110 jobs.
But, city officials have worked with the company closely to make sure the property doesn’t stay empty for long, said Steve Butcher of the Area Growth Council.
He said the property is listed with Colliers International, a prominent commercial real estate firm with offices in Dallas.
“They [Baker Hughes] are willing to take a loss on the property,” he said.
Colliers International has the property listed at $910,000.
Butcher said the city has worked hard since Baker Hughes closed to make sure a new business takes over the property.
He said Baker Hughes toured some early prospects through the facility in April. Other prospects have also shown interest and the Area Growth Council has reached out to groups that might be interested in buying the facility.
The property, valued at $3.5 million, represented about 6 percent of property tax valuation for the city, said City Manager Lance Howerton.
While getting the facility listed is a small step, it is a positive step on Baker Hughes’ part, he said.
“We are pleased that there is movement on the property,” he said.
He said the city hopes getting the property listed will lead to a buyer that could boost the city’s economy.
