Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has shrugged aside Jose Mourinho’s claim that City should have been docked points for breaching Financial Fair Play rules.
Pellegrini says the Chelsea boss is always talking about things “that don’t matter” but concedes the Blues will be worthy successors to his side as champions.
Mourinho this week renewed his attack on City over their punishment for breaching European football’s Financial Fair Play regulations last year, claiming they should have been docked points.
But Pellegrini said: “I don’t have a view about that. Every manager can say what he wants about Financial Fair Play rules.
The players, the managers, the owners, the fans, we are not happy with what we did. But I think we are working in the right way and we must arrange some things to try and win the title again next season.

“We don’t lose points because we don’t deserve to. There are so many things he always says that don’t matter – about Chelsea or referees or the FA Cup or other managers or other things.
“When you think everything is normal to say to win, you can say what you want.”
City’s attempt to defend their title has fallen away since the turn of the year and Chelsea, who are 13 points clear of Pellegrini’s men, will clinch the title if they win at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Pellegrini said: “You ask me about this season, I think that Chelsea was the best team and that they deserve to win the title, because they have been the most consistent team with very good players.
“I congratulate their owner because he is always improving his squad, and I congratulate their fans and Jose Mourinho and the players, because they deserve absolutely the title.”

As for City themselves, Pellegrini added: “I said last week that in a bad season it is not a shame to be second. I didn’t say it was a good season.
“The players, the managers, the owners, the fans, we are not happy with what we did. But I think we are working in the right way and we must arrange some things to try and win the title again next season.”
Pellegrini also confirmed that Yaya Toure will definitely miss the game against Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Sunday due to the hamstring injury that forced him off at half time during the win over West Ham last week.
And the midfielder may also miss the fixture at home to QPR a week on Sunday.
Pellegrini said: “He is injured. We will see next week but I think (he will be out) at least one week more. We don’t know how the player will improve in the next week, but I think it will be difficult to play against QPR.”
