There’s been so much anticipation for the “Fight of the Century” that events even somewhat related have seen high demand for attendance. Viewing parties have been popping up all over the country, some being more expensive than the fight itself. There will also be closed circuit offerings for the fight at various casinos across the country with some tickets exceeding $400 to watch the fight. One of the biggest events will take place before either fighter steps foot in the ring, however – the pre-fight weigh-in.
The weigh-in will take place Friday, May 1, the day before the fight. Weigh-ins for boxing matches in Las Vegas typically are free to the public and assigned on a first come, first serve basis, but an exception was made for this weigh-in to avoid a mass amount of people camping out while waiting for free tickets. The price for weigh-in tickets was set at $10 with all proceeds going to a charity of each boxer’s choice. Manny Pacquiao selected the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, while Floyd Mayweather selected the Susan B. Komen for the Cure foundation.
More than 10,000 tickets were sold for the weigh-in, which will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Some of those tickets have hit the secondary market and are priced at a higher premium than secondary market tickets for the fight itself. According to TiqIQ, the average secondary market price for Pacquiao-Mayweather weigh-in tickets is $179.25. The get-in price is listed at $108, 980% above face value. The most expensive secondary market tickets for the weigh-in are listed at $415 in Section 14.
For the fight itself, the least expensive Pacquiao vs Mayweather tickets on TiqIQ are currently listed at $2,685. That’s just a 79% premium over the cheapest face price ticket available at $1,500. The get-in price for the fight has dropped considerably over the past week as the night of the fight draws near as well. Low price last Saturday, a week before the fight, was $3,938. That price has dropped more than $1,000 and 31.8% since then. Before tickets for the fight went on sale to the public last Thursday, the least expensive tickets on the secondary market were listed for over $5,000, but a 1,124% increase in quantity since then has caused many of the tickets that do exist on the resale market to drop in price.
The average price for the fight, however, has not taken as much of a hit, though it has dropped to the second most expensive event TiqIQ has tracked on the secondary market since 2010. At a $10,117.86 average, it is currently just 3.3% below the record-setting $10,466.11 average price Super Bowl XLIX saw in February. And though years of contractual disagreements have made the boxers meet in the twilight of their careers, no other boxing match has come remotely close to posting the secondary market numbers Pacquiao vs Mayweather has. Prior to Saturday’s bout, Mayweather faced Canelo Alvarez in the top-priced boxing match in 2013. That match averaged at $2,887.69 on the secondary market, more than three times cheaper than Saturday’s average ticket price.
