The AA is to launch a dedicated tyre-fitting fleet as part of its strategy as a listed company.
Punctures and tyre-related breakdowns are the second-most common reason for calling the AA, after flat batteries, accounting for 15 per centof calls.
The breakdown group will launch AA Tyres next month with 30 vans, which it intends to increase.
New fleet: The tyre service will include puncture repair, balancing and replacement tyres
The AA said many new cars do not come with a spare tyre, but demand for tyre services has grown, because of the number of potholes on roads. The trend for big vehicles has also contributed, as motorists have difficulty jacking up heavier cars such as 4x4s and removing large tyres.
The tyre service will include puncture repair, balancing and replacement tyres.
Earlier this week the group revealed a £935millon restructuring plan and new investment in services, IT systems and advertising. AA, which listed in June, was previously owned by private equity and as a result the company was ‘starved of capital’, said executive chairman Bob Mackenzie.
Shares fell 3.5 per cent to 416.7p yesterday but are up more than 60 per cent since they listed at 250p.
