A BLUEPRINT to build five large homes in Walton has been rejected by planners.

Tendring Council’s planning committee turned down the plan for new homes in Old Hall Lane at a meeting last week.

Members were told the development would not be sustainable and would have a negative environmental impact, harming the character of the landscape and the setting of two nearby listed buildings.

Planning officers advised the proposed homes were of a good design, but were not felt to be “aspirational”.

Last month, Frinton and Walton Town Council also recommended refusal of the project, because they said there were more suitable sites for development.

Tendring Council’s planners turned down the scheme with five votes against and four abstentions.

Council planning boss Carlo Guglielmi said the most important aspect was the impact it would have on the historical listed buildings.

“That is the underlying reason that I cannot support this scheme and the fact that while they are nice houses, they are not exceptional and that is what our aspirational policy is trying to achieve,” he said.
