A landmark Grade I listed building in Burley in Wharfedale, that will now be transformed back into one of the Wharfe Valley’s most prominent residential addresses, has been successfully sold by the Leeds office of Dacres Commercial.
Burley House was built in the late 18th Century as an elegant mansion house with adjoining mews buildings and a coach house. The whole property was for a time home to The Flying Pizza before being converted into offices for Greenwoods Menswear and most recently Findel. Burley House sits in just over two acres of gardens and grounds between Ilkley and Otley, close to where the A65 meets the Burley in Wharfedale bypass.
Renowned Leeds based development companies YorPlace and Square Feet, which have a strong reputation for the sympathetic development and restoration of heritage buildings, have acquired the property. They have plans to transform the main building into a grand five-bedroom wing along with three luxury large apartments and will convert the mews building and coach house into six houses before building three townhouses in the grounds. Dacre Son Hartley’s Ilkley Office will be acting for the developers in the subsequent sale of the converted and new build homes.
YorPlace and Square Feet are also the developer behind The Malt in Burley in Wharfedale, which has seen the former Grade II listed Malt Shovel Public House converted into four substantial houses with five new build cottages in the grounds.
Matthew Brear from Dacres Commercial says: “We’re delighted to complete the sale of this well-known building. We have worked with the companies on a number of other stunning developments and there’s no doubt their innovative approach to creating imaginative living spaces, will result in Burley House being transformed into a very special place to live.”
Fraser Thompson, Managing Director of Square Feet, says: “Development opportunities in Burley in Wharfedale and the surrounding area are few and far between, despite the area being a very sought after place to live. As a result, The Malt is proving extremely popular so when Dacres presented us with the opportunity to acquire Burley House, which is probably the village’s best known and most recognisable building, we were immediately interested.
“We are thoroughly looking forward to restoring the building to its former glory and creating a selection of standout homes, in a landmark development, that the village of Burley can be proud of.”
Dacres Commercial operates from an office network that covers Leeds city centre, Ilkley, Skipton, Keighley, Harrogate and Otley. The firm is part of leading estate agency firm Dacre, Son Hartley. For more information visit www.dacres.co.uk
