A DECISION from Wiltshire Council on whether to approve an application for 263 new homes in Shurnhold has been delayed.

The Wiltshire Council strategic committee was expected to make a decision this month but it has been rescheduled until April 22 at the earliest.

Gladman Developments and Nicholas Keen sent in plans to Wiltshire Council in December. The scheme includes demolishing farm buildings, but keeping a listed farmhouse, and building up to 263 houses with access, open space and landscaping.

The plans have already faced concerns from local residents who fear it should be rejected because of the increased likelihood of flooding, traffic and impact on school capacity.

Melksham Town Council has already objected to the plans and a petition against the development has been signed by more than 500 people.

Plans for a further 270 homes further down the A365 were also submitted by Persimmon Homes last year, on the former George Ward School bringing over 500 homes to the area if both applications are approved.
