Eastnor Castle has followed success with success, by winning one of the prestigious 2015 Hudson’s Heritage Awards.
These awards, which were announced last week for 2015, were first established in 2011 and they are part of an independently judged annual national awards scheme open to historic houses, gardens, museums and heritage sites.
Their aim is is to “celebrate the very best heritage experiences”.
Last year, Eastnor Castle was highly commended in the Best Family Day Out category.
This year, the castle scooped the award in the Best Accommodation category.
Dan Snow, historian and broadcaster, presented the awards at Goldsmiths Hall in London with around 100 guests including owners and managers of the winning entries.
Eastnor offers twelve bedrooms which are available for groups who are hosting private parties, corporate events and weddings in the castle.
This year the the judges were particularly impressed with the attention to detail and the fact that Eastnor has risen to the challenge of refurbishing a Grade 1 listed building by squeezing bathrooms into obsolete linen cupboards and disguising a lift.
David Littlewood, General Manager said “The addition of such lavish bedrooms has significantly increased the appeal of the house, particularly for weddings.
“We are delighted to have won a 2015 Hudson’s Heritage Award. Winning one of these awards demonstrates the high standards and commitment we offer our visitors to ensure their experience is the very best.
“Receiving this award is acknowledgement and recognition that Eastnor Castle is amongst the elite of heritage attractions in the UK”.
Eastnor Castle is not the medieval border fortress it appears to be, but actually dates back to Georgian times, the early nineteenth century, when Gothic architecture was in fashion.
The castle was founded by John Cocks, the First Earl Somers as his stately home.
The current owner, James Hervey-Bathurst, is the grandson of Arthur Somers-Cocks, the Sixth Baron Somers.
