PLANS to turn a Grade II listed former pub and restaurant in Queensbury into a cosmetic health centre would be “detrimental to its visual and historic integrity”, say council officers.
Bradford Council refused a plan to convert the Paprika bar and restaurant on Highgate Road into The Highgate Clinic. Applicant S Hussain claimed it would “significantly improve the outlook of the building” as well as reduce fly tipping in the area.
The new business would have been for private and NHS patients and was to offer beauty treatments, holistic medical treatments and ultrasound scanning. Plans also included a new extension to the building. But officers felt it would damage a listed building.
They said: “Whilst bringing it back into use is a desirable outcome and will have benefits for the building’s maintenance and upkeep, this is not considered to outweigh the harm anticipated as a consequence of the proposed development.”
