The Preston Hall Estate belonged to Catherine’s mother Joyce’s family, the influential Culpepers.
Joyce married Edmund Howard, younger brother of the Duke of Norfolk, who was a fierce rival of Thomas Cromwell, played by Mark Rylance in the BBC Two series.
The Duke introduced his teenage niece to 50-something henry in a bid to bypass Cromwell, and after they were married the couple sometimes visited Preston hall for hunts and other special events.
Now restoration specialist Western homes has transformed the Grade II listed mansion, about three miles from Maidstone in Kent, into one, two and three-bedroom apartments, rescuing period features including the hall’s historic hammer-beamed ceilings, coats of arms, rich wood panelling, marquetry, turrets and towers.
The apartments have high ceilings and galleried mezzanines to give dramatic double-height living areas, fully-fitted designer kitchens and spacious stone-panelled bathroom suites.
Outside, a long carriage drive leads to the front door, behind which is a shared double height inner hall with a grand staircase.
There are also sculptures and a restored fountain in the 2.5 acres of landscaped grounds, which include gardens and formal lawns.
As well as the main house the 19th-century orangery and ornate stables have also been transformed into luxury homes.
