1/22: The NFL Fan Style Tour
NFL fans can swing by the 2,000 square foot truck and check out this year’s top fashions from NFL Men’s, Women’s and Tweens/Junior’s apparel, as well as NFL Homegating products. It will include authentic NFL Auction items, a virtual dressing room, NFL trivia, EA Madden Gaming Stations, giveaways and more. 1/27: Super Bowl Media Day
If you’ve ever wanted to watch several thousand reporters and other media types interview NFL players and coaches for a couple of hours, the NFL has your ticket. The league will offer 7,000 fans the chance to buy tickets to Super Bowl Media Day. The NFL started allowing fans this opportunity a few years ago and apparently it’s been well-received. A Super Bowl media day is unlike most interview sessions. In fact, it can be downright bizarre. Along with reporters, photographers and videographers from mainstream newspapers, TV stations and digital sites trying to do serious work, there are also usually a handful (or more) of “celebrity” media types looking to make their own splash.

The Players and Pets party hosted by Scottsdale Nights takes over this casual Scottsdale bar with two fashion shows and a performance by Country-pop duo Heartlyn Rae, to benefit the Halo Animal Rescue of Phoenix. Animals will be in a fashion show led by current and former NFL, MLB and NBA players, as well as Olympians, PGA and LPGA Players along with local and national media personalities.

1/27-1/2:The NFL Experience Engineered by GMC
This NFL theme park of sorts will take over the Phoenix Convention Center starting Saturday, Jan. 24. The family-friendly event will feature more than 50 interactive activities, including football clinics, free autographs from current and former players, photo opportunities with the Vince Lombardi Trophy and skills games. When the Super Bowl last was in town, the NFL Experience drew 200,000 people.

1/27-5/3: Gridiron Glory: The Best of the Pro Football Hall of Fame
The Pro Football Hall of Fame has loaned 200 of the best of its vast holdings of football artifacts, rare photos and one-of-a-kind documents. Throughout the exhibit, the Hall of Fame has also created a series of interactive exhibits that challenge both mind and body. Throughout the artifact-filled Gridiron Glory exhibition will be storylines focusing on the societal impact of the sport and the science behind the game. Inspirational stories of the game’s pioneers, great players, coaches, and circumstances of play will unfold.

Since breaking through in 2008, the Grammy-winning Zac Brown Band have topped the Billboard country charts with no fewer than eight songs — the four-times-platinum “Chicken Fried,” “Toes,” “Highway 20 Ride,” “Free,” “As She’s Walking Away,” “Colder Weather,” “Knee Deep” and “Keep Me In Mind.” They’ll headline the opening day of DIRECTV’s Super Fan Festival, which also features Thomas Rhett, Sam Hunt and the Cadillac Three.

1/28: Capital Cities at the Coors Light Birds Nest
These modern-rock-radio chart-toppers crashed the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 with their double-platinum breakthrough single, “Safe and Sound,” from “In a Tidal Wave of Mystery,” their first full-length release. The album contains a guest appearance by Andre 3000 of OutKast on a track called “Farrah Fawcett Hair.” A review of the album in Spin summed up Capital Cities’ appeal as “breezy summer electro jams by guys who know what commercial means.” Having seen them live, I’ll vouch for Spin.

1/28: Red White Black Party with Jordin Sparks
Glendale’s American Idol Jordin Sparks hosts the Red White Black Party, alongside Arizona Cardinals Larry Fitzgerald and Calais Campbell. Sparks made her first appearance on the Hot 100 in 2007 with “This Is My Now,” her “Idol” coronation single, which peaked at No. 15. Subsequent hits include “Tattoo,” “One Step at a Time,” “Battlefield” and her biggest hit, the Chris Brown duet “No Air.”

These L.A. rockers may be best remembered in the mainstream as the guys who did the soundtrack to “La Bamba.” But those Ritchie Valens covers barely scratch the surface of a decades-long career that’s seen their scope expand from the roots-revival moves of their earliest efforts through the artistry of “Kiko” to the richly textured triumph of “Tin Can Trust,” their latest studio release.

1/28: Moves magazine Night Moves Party with Grandmaster Flash
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five became the first hip-hop artists enshrined in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. They’re best remembered for 1982’s socially conscious “The Message,” which peaked at No. 4 on Billboard’s RB chart, and “White Lines.” The rock hall website says: “The combination of Grandmaster Flash’s turntable mastery and the Furious Five’s raps, which ranged from socially conscious to frivolously fun, made for a series of 12-inch records that forever altered the musical landscape.”

1/28-1/2: Verizon Super Bowl Central
For families who want to embrace the Super Bowl but can’t shell out $20-$35 per ticket for the NFL Experience, there’s Verizon Super Bowl Central, a free Super Bowl street fair Wednesday-Sunday, Jan. 28-Feb. 1 that spans 12 blocks of downtown Phoenix near the Convention Center. This family-friendly festival offers free football-themed activities, live music, autographs from NFL alumni and nightly fireworks displays. Verizon Super Bowl Central’s main attraction is the Grand Canyon Experience, a gigantic 30-by-100 foot climbing wall with 20 climbing positions and an 18-foot waterfall flowing down the middle.
For $5, fans ages 6 and up can climb the Grand Canyon Experience starting at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28. Verizon Super Bowl Central will also be TV central for NBC’s “The Today Show,” the NFL Network, MSNBC, CNN and many others who will be doing live shots here during Super Bowl week. Local organizers expect more than a million fans to take part in the festivities.

1/28: Wounded Warriors Amputee Football Team vs. NFL alumni
Before the Super Bowl, another game is set to take the field with a lot of fanfare. The Wounded Warrior Amputee Football Team is taking on NFL alumni in a match they’re calling “A Game of Honor.” Snoop Dogg will perform at halftime. It’ll be a charity flag-football game at Shadow Mountain High School, sponsored by Humana and the Military Benefit Association. The WWAFT’s mission is to inspire and raise awareness of America’s wounded veterans by taking to the football field with players who’ve lost limbs while serving in the military.

Country star and Arizona native, Dierks Bentley, is part of the Night Before concert at US Airways on Super Bowl weekend. So it’s no surprise he’s also making a stop by his namesake bar, Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row in the heart of downtown Scottsdale.
The singer will host a bash on Friday night before the big game and hang out throughout the night. And maybe, if he feels like it, perform a song or two. While celebrity guests haven’t been confirmed, we hear a slew of country stars and Bentley’s friends will be hanging out, along with another big name music star also in town for the Super Bowl.

1/30: Imagine Dragons and Snoop Dogg at DIRECTV’s Super Fan Festival
Imagine Dragons hit the charts at No. 2 with “Night Visions,” which posted the best first-week sales for a full-length debut by a rock band since 2006. The album’s lead single, “It’s Time,” was a platinum breakthrough, but the song that really put them on the fast track to the big room was “Radioactive,” a nine-times-platinum smash that topped the Alternative Songs and Rock Songs charts while hitting No. 3 on Billboard’sHot 100. And then, they followed through with the five-times platinum “Demons.” Snoop Dogg is, of course, a hip-hop legend. They’re said to be collaborating at some point during this event. For the first time, a Coors Light Birds Nest show sold out two months in advance. Sothat’s how popular Rock remains 15 years after hitting the mainstream with “Bawitaba.” Rock, who began his career blending rap and alternative rock on such crowd-pleasing staples as “Bawitaba,” is best-known for such hits as “Only God Knows Why,” “Picture” and “All Summer Long.”

This is one serious old-school hip-hop lineup with Big Daddy Kane, Rakim and KRS-One. Kane topped the rap charts with “Smooth Operator” in 1989, following through with “Cause I Can Do It Right” and “Groove With It.” Rakim rose to fame with DJ Eric B. The duo’s landmark debut, “Paid in Full,” was named the greatest hip-hop album of all time by MTV, and Rakim is widely regarded as one of hip-hop’s greatest MCs. KRS-One rose to fame with Boogie Down Productions, whose first album, “Criminal Minded,” is often seen as having paved the way for East Coast gangsta rap.

These Cincinnati rockers have gone Top 20 with three singles — “Anna Sun,” “Tightrope” and “Shut Up and Dance” — on Billboard’s alternative-songs chart. Their name is a tip of the hat to the Police song “Walking on the Moon,” which definitely suits their poppy art-rock sensibilities.

After three months of raising money to fight hunger, the four winners of the NFL “Flavors of the Valley” restaurant competition have been announced: the Wigwam, Bourbon Jack’s, Dos Gringos and Four Peaks Brewing Co.
The competition is part of the Taste of the NFL’s annual Kick Hunger Challenge, pitting 16 restaurants against each other to raise the most money between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31. Nearly $60,000 was raised and will be distributed evenly between St. Mary’s Food Bank in Phoenix and Vista del Camino Community Center in Scottsdale.
The winners will join chef Eddie Matney and his “Flavors of the Valley” showcase at the Taste of the NFL’s Party with a Purpose on Saturday, Jan. 31, at WestWorld of Scottsdale. The bash will bring together top chefs from all over the country, each representing an NFL team.
